Chapter 3 - The Ignored Warning

Cassandra rolled her eyes, her fake smile tightening into a scowl of pure annoyance. "I don't care who sent you up here. You are ruining the aesthetic of my presentation. Turn around and use the service elevator."

Evan didn't move. He stood his ground, looking past the arrogant CEO toward the wall directly behind the presentation screen.

"The main water line running behind that wall is cracked," Evan explained, his voice remaining perfectly calm despite her open hostility. "The pressure is building fast. If I don't shut the master valve located behind this specific wall, the entire boardroom is going to flood in about ten minutes."

Cassandra scoffed loudly, waving her hand as if swatting away an annoying insect.

"Oh, please. Don't try to justify your incompetence with dramatic stories. Go find another valve in the hallway. I am not letting a filthy mechanic tear up my boardroom while I am conducting the most important meeting of my life."

Evan stared at her for a long moment. He realized that trying to save this arrogant woman from her own disaster was completely pointless. He gave a single, slow nod.

"I'll wait outside," Evan said quietly, turning his back on the CEO to leave the room.
