Chapter 5 - The Blizzard

Arthur took a slow, deliberate step away from the mahogany table, entirely ignoring the shocked gasps of the other board members. He walked straight toward the doorway, his eyes locked intensely on Evan.
"Three years ago," Arthur said, his voice thick with emotion, echoing loudly in the silent boardroom. "My wife was driving alone on the interstate when a massive blizzard hit. Her engine completely seized. Her phone was dead, the car's heater was broken, and the snow was piling up by the minute. She was stranded for four hours in sub-zero temperatures."
Cassandra’s fake smile began to falter. She gripped her champagne glass tighter, a sickening feeling of dread settling in her stomach as she realized she had deeply insulted someone the billionaire knew.
"Every single tow truck company in the state refused to go out in that storm," Arthur continued, tears welling in his sharp gray eyes. "The police were overwhelmed. She was literally freezing to death in the driver's seat. She thought she was going to die alone on that highway, leaving our children without a mother."
