Chapter 2 - The Coward's Choice

Logan stood just two feet away from his wife. He was in his early thirties, wearing a sharp, tailored blue blazer and a crisp white shirt. He looked exactly like the successful, wealthy suburban man he desperately pretended to be.

But behind the expensive clothes, Logan was a weak-willed, cowardly shell of a man.

Albert looked into his son’s eyes, waiting for Logan to tell Chelsea to lower her hand. He waited for Logan to put his arm around his father’s shoulder and proudly introduce him to the guests in the living room.

Instead, Logan physically shrank.

He refused to meet his father’s eyes. He stared down at the expensive hardwood floors, rubbing the back of his neck in pathetic, avoidant discomfort. He was absolutely terrified of upsetting his arrogant wife and ruining their fake image in front of the local country club elite.

"Dad," Logan muttered, his voice barely above a pathetic whisper. "Just give us space."

The words hit Albert harder than a physical punch to the chest.

His own flesh and blood had just chosen an arrogant woman's social-climbing dinner party over his father's basic dignity. The micro-expressions on Albert’s weathered face shifted cinematically. The deep, agonizing hurt in his eyes slowly evaporated, instantly replaced by a cold, titanium resolve.

Albert didn't argue. He didn't raise his voice. He didn't shed a single tear.

He simply turned around and walked silently up the stairs, disappearing into the shadows as Chelsea smirked triumphantly and returned to her wealthy guests.

👉 Chelsea thought she had successfully hidden the family embarrassment, entirely oblivious to the massive financial secret Albert was holding.
