Chapter 6 - The Key on the Console

The cinematic realism of the heavy, suffocating silence paralyzed the morning air.
Albert didn't look at Chelsea. He didn't give the arrogant, parasitic woman a single second of his attention.
He walked slowly toward the heavy oak front door. Beside the door sat an expensive, mirrored console table where the family kept their keys and mail.
An extreme close-up captured Albert’s weathered, heavily lined hand. With absolute, chilling precision, he reached into the pocket of his green jacket, pulled out his brass house key, and placed it gently onto the glass surface of the console table.
The soft, metallic clink echoed like a gunshot.
Logan physically staggered forward, his blue blazer feeling like a suffocating straightjacket. The reality of the key hitting the table finally pierced through his cowardly delusion.
"Dad..." Logan whispered, his voice trembling with sudden, desperate realization.
Albert stopped. He turned his head slowly, looking at his son one last time. There was no anger in his eyes. There was no hatred. There was only absolute, irreversible finality.
"Goodbye, Logan," Albert said. His voice was incredibly steady, carrying a heavy, profound peace.

He turned the brass doorknob, opened the heavy front door, and walked out into the bright, blinding morning light. He took his eight-hundred-thousand-dollar fortune, his dignity, and his peace of mind with him, leaving the door wide open behind him.
👉 Chelsea rolled her eyes and shut the door, entirely unaware that a massive financial guillotine was about to drop on her neck.
