Chapter 4 - The Midnight Awakening

The sound of clinking glasses and pretentious laughter echoed up the stairs for hours.
Albert sat perfectly still on the edge of his guest bed, the glow of the streetlights illuminating his dignified, weathered face. He looked at a framed photograph of his late wife sitting on the nightstand. She had always warned him that his relentless generosity would eventually turn Logan into a weak, entitled man.
She had been absolutely right.
Logan’s cowardly muttering in the hallway played on a continuous, agonizing loop in Albert’s mind. “Dad, just give us space.”
Albert realized he wasn't helping his son by paying the mortgage. He was funding a monster. He was allowing Chelsea to financially bleed them dry while treating him like absolute garbage.
Albert opened his iPad. He logged into his highly secured, private wealth management portal. The screen illuminated the dark room, displaying his massive eight-hundred-thousand-dollar balance.
With slow, steady, and incredibly deliberate taps of his finger, Albert canceled the automatic monthly transfer to Logan’s bank account.
He didn't stop there. He formally removed himself as the invisible guarantor on Logan’s massive home equity line of credit.
The financial safety net was completely, permanently severed.

Albert stood up, pulled two large, heavy suitcases from the back of his closet, and began meticulously packing his simple plaid shirts and khaki pants. He didn't leave a single trace of his existence in the room.
👉 The sun rose over the luxury suburban neighborhood, setting the stage for a departure that would trigger an absolute bloodbath.
