Chapter 8 - The Financial Truth

"What is going on?!" Chelsea shrieked, throwing her purse onto the hardwood floor.

"He's gone, Chelsea," Logan wept hysterically, completely abandoning his polished, successful persona. "My dad is gone, and he took the safety net with him."

Chelsea stared at him, her face twisting in confusion. "What safety net? He paid six hundred dollars a month in rent! We can easily cover that!"

"He wasn't paying rent!" Logan roared, his voice cracking in absolute agony. "My business has been bankrupt for two years! I haven't taken a salary since we bought this house! My dad was secretly transferring eight thousand dollars a month into my private account to cover the mortgage and your insane credit card bills!"

All the color violently drained from Chelsea’s flawless face. Her knees literally buckled, and she fell against the expensive console table where Albert had left his key.

"He... he had money?" Chelsea whispered, her heart completely stopping.

"He has nearly a million dollars in liquid investments," Logan sobbed, clutching a final notice from the bank. "He was the silent guarantor on our home equity line of credit. When he left, he pulled his backing. The bank did a hard audit. They know we have zero income."

Chelsea frantically tore open the white envelope she had pulled from the front door.

👉 Chelsea screamed for Logan to fix it, but the terrifying consequences of her arrogance were already knocking at the door.
