Chapter 5 - The Incriminating Video

The cinematic realism of the absolute, crushing betrayal illuminated the dark screen of Dante's laptop.
The video footage was crystal clear, recorded exactly thirty minutes ago from the perspective of the teddy bear sitting on the drawing-room sofa. The room was empty until Elena walked in. She was wearing the exact same red silk slip dress, but her glamorous, loving persona was completely gone.
She was pressing a burner phone to her ear, pacing aggressively across the marble floor.
"The security shift changes at exactly nine o'clock," Elena’s voice hissed through the laptop speakers. "I unlocked the side gate. Send your men in through the kitchen. Dante will be in his study. Shoot him, and make sure the kid is dealt with too. I'm not playing stepmother to an orphan."
Dante physically stopped breathing. The air in his office suddenly felt incredibly thin.
The woman he had trusted, the woman he had let sleep in his bed, was actively conspiring with a rival cartel to have him and a five-year-old girl violently slaughtered in their own home.
On the video, Elena ended the call. As she turned around, her eyes locked onto the teddy bear. A look of absolute panic washed over her face as she noticed the tiny blue recording light flashing inside the button eye.
