Chapter 2 - The Cold Stare

The entire ballroom went dead silent. The muffled whispers of the elite audience sitting in the background instantly vanished. The air grew so thick and tense that it felt hard to breathe.
Dominic didn't immediately drop his ballet pose. He didn't yell. He didn't signal for his other armed men. Instead, he turned his head with agonizing slowness. His eyes locked onto Marco.
It was a cold, soul-piercing, terrifying stare. The kind of look Dominic gave right before he erased someone from existence. His natural micro-expressions didn't show anger; they showed a lethal, calculated promise of violence.
Marco’s face drained of all color. His knees actually knocked together beneath his tailored suit. He had only been hired three months ago, brought in by Dominic’s glamorous fiancée, Vanessa, who was currently sitting in the front row. Marco was Vanessa’s older brother, a man who thought his family connection made him completely untouchable. He thought he could get away with anything.
He was dead wrong.
Lily stopped clapping. The sweet little girl looked at the terrified guard, her brown eyes narrowing. She didn't like anyone being mean to her father. She raised her small, fragile arm and fiercely pointed her little finger off-screen directly at Marco.
