Chapter 1 - The Disgrace in the Lobby

The highly reflective marble floor of the luxurious hotel lobby gleamed under the warm light of towering crystal chandeliers. Blurred guests in designer clothing drifted through the grand space, sipping champagne and exchanging quiet, polite conversation. It was a picture of absolute wealth and exclusivity.
But right in the center of the pristine lobby, sitting calmly on the floor next to a massive marble pillar, was Daniel.
In his 40s, with unkempt dark hair, Daniel wore a worn, dirty jacket and ripped pants that looked like they hadn't been washed in weeks. Beside him sat a battered, scuffed leather messenger bag. He wasn't begging. He wasn't speaking. He was simply sitting there, his hands resting quietly in his lap.
Suddenly, a sharp, aggressive voice cut through the soft lobby music.
“What is he still doing here?”
Coleman, the hotel manager, marched toward Daniel. In his 40s, wearing a perfectly tailored dark suit, an expensive tie, and a gleaming gold name badge, Coleman looked furious. He leaned down, pointing an angry, manicured finger directly at Daniel’s face. The few guests nearby stopped and stared, anticipating a brutal eviction.
Daniel didn't flinch. He slowly looked up at Coleman, his dark eyes entirely calm and steady.
