Chapter 4 - The Threat

Daniel stood up.

Despite his ripped pants and dirty jacket, there was a sudden, terrifying presence about him as he rose to his full height. He wasn't slouching. He wasn't cowering. He stood perfectly straight, locking eyes with the arrogant manager.

“You just fired a young girl for showing basic human empathy,” Daniel stated, his voice ringing with chilling clarity through the grand lobby.

Coleman scoffed, though he took a slight step backward. “I run this hotel how I see fit. The owner lives in London and leaves the operations entirely to me. I am the absolute authority here. I don't answer to you, and I certainly don't answer to a bleeding-heart receptionist.”

“You answer to the Sterling Group,” Daniel corrected him quietly.

“I am the face of the Sterling Group in this city,” Coleman boasted, pointing to his gold name badge. “Now, I am done playing games. I am calling the police. When they get here, I’m telling them you assaulted me. Let’s see how a judge treats a vagrant who attacks a respected businessman.”

Coleman reached into his tailored suit jacket and pulled out his expensive smartphone, ready to ruin Daniel’s life with a single, vicious lie.

Emily began to openly weep, terrified that she had just caused an innocent homeless man to go to jail.
