Chapter 5 - The Fake Nanny

"His... his nanny?" the manager stammered, sweating profusely as Arthur towered over him.

"Yes," Arthur lied effortlessly, his dark eyes never leaving the manager's terrified face. "She stepped out to retrieve a toy from my car. My son wandered away from my table. And instead of gently guiding him back, you decided to manhandle a traumatized three-year-old."

"I... I was just protecting the restaurant's atmosphere, sir!" the manager pleaded, desperate to save his career. "You know how much we value your investments here!"

Arthur released the manager's wrist with a look of pure disgust. "I am pulling every single dime of my investment from this establishment by tomorrow morning. And if you are not fired by the time I walk out those doors, I will personally ensure this restaurant is bulldozed and turned into a parking lot."

The manager looked like he was going to vomit. He scrambled backward and practically ran toward the kitchen to call the owners, his entire life ruined in less than five minutes.

Arthur took a deep breath, smoothing his black suit jacket. He slowly turned around and knelt down on the spilled milk and broken glass, completely ruining his expensive trousers.

He looked at his little boy, who was still hiding behind the waitress.

"Hey, buddy," Arthur whispered, tears welling in his eyes again. "Are you okay?"

The toddler peeked out. He didn't run to his father. He just gripped the waitress's finger tighter.

Arthur swallowed a heavy lump of grief. He looked up at the young woman with blonde hair. "What is your name?"

"Sarah," she whispered, her hands still trembling.
