Chapter 8 - The New Nanny

"Where are you going?" Arthur asked, his voice steadying, the powerful CEO persona slowly returning.

"To the kitchen, sir," Sarah said softly. "The manager fired me. I need to get my coat."

Arthur stood up, lifting his little boy securely into his arms. The toddler rested his head comfortably against his father's shoulder, finally safe.

"You aren't going to the kitchen, Sarah," Arthur said smoothly, pulling out a sleek black wallet. He tossed a hundred-dollar bill onto the table to cover the broken glass. "And you certainly aren't working as a waitress anymore."

Sarah blinked, confused. "Sir?"

"I didn't lie to that manager," Arthur stated, a faint, genuine smile touching his lips. "My son needs a nanny. But more importantly, he needs someone who knows his mother's song. He needs someone who is fierce enough to push a grown man away to protect a child."

Sarah gasped, her hands flying to her mouth. "Mr. Vance, I... I couldn't possibly! I'm just a nursing student, I don't have nannying credentials!"

"I don't care about credentials," Arthur said firmly. "I care about loyalty. I care about character. I will triple whatever this restaurant was paying you. I will pay for the rest of your nursing school tuition in full. And you will have a permanent, secure place in our home."

Sarah couldn't speak. She just broke down into heavy, beautiful sobs of absolute relief, nodding her head vigorously. The crushing weight of her student loans and poverty was instantly erased.
