Chapter 2 - The Cruel Laughter

The cinematic realism of the suffocating, heavy tension completely electrified the airplane cabin.
A tight close-up captured Margaret fighting back humiliated tears, her chin trembling slightly as she desperately tried to balance on her good leg.
"I'm sorry," Margaret whispered gently, her face flushing bright red. "I just need a second to balance. The bag is a bit heavy."
"I don't care," the businessman interrupted aggressively, crossing his arms over his expensive gray suit. "You and your kid clearly don't belong in first class. Why don't you limp back to economy where you belong? You're ruining the aesthetic of the cabin."
The sheer, unhinged audacity of the insult was breathtaking. But instead of defending the struggling mother, two wealthy socialites sitting across the aisle actually scoffed and laughed quietly behind their hands. The elite passengers were completely entirely devoid of human empathy, looking at the disabled woman and her child with pure, unfiltered disgust.
Poppy, the sweet seven-year-old girl, shrank back against her mother's dress, hugging her white stuffed bunny even tighter. Her big blue eyes welled with terrified tears as she watched the wealthy adults mock her mother.
Margaret took a deep breath, refusing to let her daughter see her break. She reached up again, her metallic leg clicking softly as she tried one last time to push the heavy canvas bag into the overhead bin.
