Chapter 4 - The Silver Stars

A tight close-up captured the Captain's face. The polite, customer-service smile completely vanished in a fraction of a second. All the blood rushed to his weathered face, his eyes widening in sheer, profound, and absolute awe.

He wasn't looking at Margaret's prosthetic leg. He was staring directly at the heavy, dark green canvas carry-on bag she was trying to push into the bin.

Pinned discreetly to the side of the canvas bag was a highly specific, extremely rare metallic insignia.

To understand the absolute, bone-chilling magnitude of the Captain's realization, one had to look at that piece of metal. It wasn't a fashion statement. It was a cluster of four highly polished silver stars, surrounded by the specific, heavily classified emblem of the United States Army Special Operations Command.

Margaret wasn't a charity case.

She was a highly decorated, profoundly lethal retired Four-Star General. She had lost her leg pulling three wounded, bleeding soldiers out of a burning transport vehicle during a massive, catastrophic ambush in a classified warzone exactly ten years ago. She had sacrificed her own body to save her men, earning the absolute highest honors the country could bestow.

The Captain physically stopped breathing. The bright airplane lighting suddenly felt incredibly heavy.

👉 The Captain completely abandoned his commercial pilot persona, ready to shatter the arrogance of the first-class cabin.
