Chapter 5 - The Dead Man's Name

The mother stopped eating. She looked down at the pristine white tablecloth, the profound grief washing over her exhausted face.
She didn't know she was sitting across from the most dangerous man in the city. She just thought he was a kind, wealthy stranger who had taken pity on a starving child.
A tight close-up captured her trembling lips.
"Marco Bellandi," the mother whispered softly, a single tear falling onto her wet coat.
An extreme, cinematic close-up snapped directly to Ricci.
His hand, which had been resting casually next to his water glass, completely froze. The air in his lungs violently turned to absolute ice. His dark eyes widened in profound, earth-shattering shock.
In the background, out of focus, the massive bodyguard standing near the wall went completely, terrifyingly pale.
The cinematic realism of the moment was paralyzing. Marco Bellandi wasn't just a random name. Marco had been Ricci’s absolute best friend, his most trusted lieutenant, and his loyal brother-in-arms for fifteen years.
