Ricci stared at the woman sitting across from him. His brilliant, tactical mind instantly began putting the horrific pieces together.
When Marco died a hero, Ricci had personally authorized a massive, multi-million-dollar pension to be delivered directly to Marco's widow and child to ensure they never, ever had to worry about money again. He had entrusted his top financial capo, a man named Silvio, to deliver the funds and set up the trust.
But Marco’s wife and child were currently starving in a freezing rainstorm, wearing cheap, soaking wet clothes.
"Silvio didn't give you the money," Ricci whispered, his voice dropping into a lethal, demonic register.
The mother looked up, deeply confused and terrified by the sudden, intense shift in his demeanor. "Who is Silvio? What money? My husband was a truck driver. He died in a crash. The company said there was no insurance."
Ricci’s jaw clenched so hard it looked like it would shatter.
Silvio hadn't just stolen the multi-million-dollar pension meant for a dead hero's family. He had completely lied to the widow, cutting her off from the syndicate's protection and leaving her to starve on the streets while he pocketed the cash.
