Chapter 2 - The Calculated Trap

Cecilia wiped her burning eyes, desperately re-reading the damning paper in her hands.

Seven months ago, her father’s small manufacturing company had been targeted by a ruthless corporate takeover. They were drowning in massive debt, facing total bankruptcy and losing their family home. Roman, the apex predator of the city’s financial district, had stepped in like a savior. He paid off the debt entirely.

But there was a catch. He demanded Cecilia’s hand in marriage to secure a "trustworthy" public image for his investors.

He had promised Cecilia it was just a temporary, two-year arrangement. He swore that once the PR campaign was over, she would be completely free to leave, with her family's company fully restored.

But the contract in her trembling hands told a horrifyingly different story.

Cecilia looked at the bold print. Roman hadn't paid off the debt. He had simply purchased it through an offshore shell company. He was legally her father's sole creditor. And there was a specific, ironclad clause explicitly stating that if Cecilia ever filed for divorce, her father's company and personal assets would be instantly, violently seized.

He never intended to let her go.
