Chapter 2 - The Fireplace Smirk

The luxurious living room was a picture of cozy wealth. The fireplace crackled warmly, casting an amber glow over the expensive white leather couch.

Sitting on that couch, completely unbothered by the freezing child or the furious grandfather, was Mark. The 35-year-old handsome man, wearing a crisp white button-down shirt and dark blue pants, casually swirled a crystal glass of amber whiskey in his hand. He didn't even put the glass down.

Leaning intimately against his shoulder was Vanessa. She was a beautiful, calculating blonde woman in her late twenties, wearing a tight black dress with a sweetheart neckline. She wasn't Mark's wife. She was his mistress.

Mark took a slow sip of his whiskey, offering his father-in-law an arrogant, dismissive sneer.

"Calm down, Arthur," Mark scoffed, his tone dripping with toxic entitlement. "The kid was throwing a tantrum because she wanted her mother. Vanessa told her to wait on the porch until she learned how to behave. It builds character."

Mark casually draped his arm around his mistress’s waist, looking at the freezing four-year-old with absolute contempt.

"Besides," Mark continued smoothly, entirely blind to the lethal danger standing in his doorway. "This is my house now. She has to follow my rules."

👉 Mark thought he was the undisputed king of the castle, but the little girl’s tears were about to seal his total destruction.
