Chapter 7 - The Master Key

Arthur violently shoved Mark away.

Mark crashed back onto the white couch, landing heavily next to his panicked mistress. He scrambled to his hands and knees, looking up at his father-in-law with sheer, unadulterated desperation.

"Arthur, please!" Mark begged, the arrogant king completely replaced by a weeping, pathetic coward. "It was a mistake! I was just stressed about the accident! I love Sarah! Don't take the house away from me!"

"You locked a four-year-old child in a freezing blizzard so you could sleep with trash," Arthur replied, his voice completely devoid of human mercy. "You don't know what love is."

Arthur reached into the pocket of his dark blue suit and pulled out a heavy set of keys. He unhooked a small silver master key and held it up in the warm light of the living room.

"My daughter woke up from her surgery an hour ago," Arthur said, delivering the ultimate, crushing blow. "She's going to survive. And the first thing she told me to do was come to this house, retrieve her daughter, and take out the garbage."

Vanessa’s face twisted in panic. "Mark, do something! I brought all my bags here! We're supposed to host my friends tomorrow!"
