Chapter 2 - The Forged Signature

The heavy, cinematic tension in the dining room was absolutely suffocating.

Luca slammed his own hands onto the mahogany table, leaning over the yellowed papers. He had spent his entire life believing the Sullivan family had violently stolen the harbor front property from his father back in the 1990s. The recent acquisition was supposed to be a legal restoration of what was rightfully theirs.

But as Luca looked down at the documents Mara had just slammed on the table, a look of absolute, paralyzing betrayal crossed his handsome face.

It was a property release deed, dated November 14, 1992, transferring the massive harbor estate out of the Sullivan name and directly into the Belandi family holdings. At the very bottom of the page was the bold, cursive signature of Mara’s father, Thomas Sullivan.

This was the exact document the Belandi lawyers had just used to finalize the multi-million dollar closing yesterday.

"The closing stops," Luca ordered sternly, keeping his voice incredibly low. He looked at Mara, completely confused. "This is a legal transfer. Your father signed the land away thirty years ago."

Mara didn't flinch. She was completely surrounded by dangerous men with guns, but she radiated absolute, fearless determination.

"My father never signed that document, Luca," Mara stated sharply, her voice perfectly steady.

She reached down and tapped her manicured finger directly onto the date next to the signature.
