Chapter 5 - The Hidden Evidence

Victoria didn't answer her son. She tightened her grip on the back of her chair, refusing to back down.

"Throw her out," Victoria commanded the armed guards, her voice dropping into a lethal register. "She is trespassing on private property."

But before the guards could even take a single step forward, Gabriel Moretti stepped out of the shadows. Gabriel was a forty-nine-year-old man with graying temples, wearing a dark suit. He was Luca’s most trusted underboss and the family's lead historical archivist.

Gabriel stood near the crackling fireplace, watching the family dynamic implode with quiet, intense observation.

"Wait," Gabriel ordered the guards, his voice carrying immense, undeniable authority.

Gabriel walked slowly toward the mahogany table. He didn't look at Victoria. He looked directly at Mara, and then down at the yellowed documents.

"Mara didn't just bring the forged deed, Luca," Gabriel stated smoothly, completely turning against the matriarch's orders. He reached across the table and picked up a second, highly degraded piece of paper from the stack.

It was an old, carbon-copied banking ledger from 1992.

Gabriel slid the ledger directly in front of Luca.

"I verified this an hour ago," Gabriel revealed, dropping the ultimate, devastating financial bomb. "This is a withdrawal record from our private family trust. Exactly one week before that forged deed was filed, a massive sum of cash was paid directly to the Notary Public who stamped that signature."
