Chapter 1 - The Snowy Confrontation

The biting winter wind whipped across the snowy front porch, rustling the festive Christmas garlands wrapped tightly around the wooden banisters. The winter daylight was crisp and unforgiving, matching the freezing, suffocating tension that hung heavily in the air.

Standing on the porch, trembling with absolute, unadulterated fury, was Yvette.

She was a woman in her thirties, dripping in stolen wealth, wearing a pristine white fur-trimmed coat and expensive brown leather boots. Her face was twisted into a mask of pure, vicious rage. She aggressively pointed her manicured finger at the older woman standing by the front door.

"This is completely unreasonable!" Yvette shrieked, her voice echoing down the quiet, snow-covered suburban street.

Standing nervously behind Yvette was her husband, Carter. He was a man in his thirties with a manicured beard, wearing a heavy brown winter jacket. He shifted uncomfortably from foot to foot, too much of a coward to look his own mother in the eye.

Facing them was Rosalind. She was a sixty-year-old widow with her gray hair pinned up in a neat, elegant updo. She wore a simple, humble green sweater. She didn't flinch at Yvette’s screaming. She stood perfectly calm, her posture radiating an unbreakable, cinematic strength.

In her right hand, Rosalind quietly held a single, folded white document.

"You can't take the trip away!" Yvette demanded, glaring at the older woman with venomous entitlement. "Everything is packed! The car is waiting!"

Rosalind didn't raise her voice. She calmly held up the white document, her eyes locked dead onto her daughter-in-law's furious face.
