Chapter 10 - The Winter Escape

The police cruisers backed out of the driveway, taking the toxic, abusive parasites away forever.
The front porch fell into a beautiful, profound silence. The only sound was the gentle rustling of the Christmas garlands in the winter wind.
Rosalind stood alone on the porch, letting out a long, shuddering breath. The heavy, agonizing weight of the last six months was finally lifted from her shoulders. She was safe. Her home was hers again.
Suddenly, a sleek, black luxury town car pulled up to the curb.
The driver stepped out, tipping his hat respectfully. "Ready for the airport, Mrs. Vance?"
Rosalind smiled a genuine, radiant smile. "Yes, I am."
She hadn't just cancelled Yvette’s tickets. Mr. Sterling had transferred the first-class flights and the massive, five-star luxury ski chalet in Switzerland into Rosalind’s name. She wasn't going alone, either. She was taking her two best friends from her grief support group for a massive, two-week, fully paid luxury vacation in the Alps.
She walked past the abandoned designer suitcases, climbed into the warm, plush leather seat of the town car, and drove away to enjoy the life her husband had built for her.
Carter and Yvette were sentenced to five years in federal prison, completely ruined, bankrupt, and permanently locked in the cold.

When Rosalind finally returned from Switzerland, she walked into her beautiful, quiet house, turned the thermostat up to seventy-five degrees, and sat by a roaring fire, knowing she would never let anyone disrespect her again.
Do you think Carter deserved to go to prison with his wife, or should Rosalind have shown her son a little bit of mercy?
