Chapter 6 - The Declined Boarding Passes

The morning of December 20th arrived with a bitter, biting chill.

The front porch was decorated with Christmas garlands, but inside the house, Yvette was frantically ordering Carter around like a servant.

"Put the suitcases on the porch, Carter!" Yvette snapped, checking her flawless makeup in the hallway mirror. "The Uber Black is going to be here in five minutes! We cannot miss our first-class flight!"

Carter nervously dragged four massive designer suitcases out the front door, his breath pluming in the freezing winter daylight.

Rosalind stood quietly in the kitchen, wearing her green sweater, holding a fresh cup of coffee. She watched them with dead, expressionless eyes.

Yvette pulled out her brand-new iPhone to pull up their digital boarding passes. She tapped the airline app, a smug, victorious smile plastered across her face.

Suddenly, a bright red error message flashed across her screen.

TICKETS CANCELLED. PAYMENT REVERSED.

Yvette frowned. "What the hell is this?"

She aggressively tapped the screen again. A second notification popped up from her banking app.

ACCOUNT FROZEN. FRAUD INVESTIGATION PENDING.

"Carter!" Yvette shrieked, panic instantly replacing her arrogance. "The airline just cancelled our tickets! My credit cards are declining! Call the bank right now!"

Carter pulled out his phone, his hands shaking. "My... my accounts are frozen too, Yvette. It says zero balance."
