Chapter 4 - The Forged Signatures

"I found her late husband’s life insurance documents in the basement," Yvette bragged casually on the phone. "I just forged her signature on the authorization forms and requested a massive, lump-sum wire transfer to our joint account. It cleared yesterday."

Rosalind pressed her back against the kitchen wall, tears of profound, agonizing betrayal spilling down her cheeks.

Her late husband, Arthur, had worked grueling sixty-hour weeks at a steel mill for forty years to build that life insurance policy. It was Rosalind’s safety net. It was the only money she had left to survive her remaining years. And this monster had stolen every single penny to go skiing.

"What about the old lady?" the friend asked. "Won't she notice you're gone for two weeks?"

"Who cares?" Yvette scoffed cruelly. "I'm turning the heat off while we're gone to save on the utility bills. If she freezes in that drafty sunroom, it just solves my problem faster. We'll have the whole house to ourselves when we get back."

Rosalind stopped crying.

The profound, crushing sadness completely evaporated, replaced by a cold, cinematic, and absolute wrath. She realized in that exact moment that her son wasn't just a coward—he was an accomplice to her murder by neglect.

She didn't confront Yvette. She didn't scream or throw plates.

Rosalind quietly slipped out the back door into the freezing winter air, wearing only her green sweater. She walked three miles through the snow to the one place that could help her destroy the parasites living in her home.
