Chapter 9 - The Arrest

"You crazy old bat!" Yvette shrieked hysterically, completely losing her mind. She lunged forward, raising her hand to strike the sixty-year-old widow. "I'll kill you! I'll take this house!"

Before Yvette could even take a step, the wailing sound of heavy sirens shattered the quiet suburban morning.

Two black police cruisers violently swerved into the snowy driveway, their red and blue lights flashing brilliantly against the winter daylight. Four armed police officers jumped out of the vehicles, marching straight up the porch steps.

"Yvette and Carter Vance!" the lead officer barked, resting his hand on his duty belt. "You are under arrest for felony wire fraud and elder abuse."

"No! Please!" Yvette screamed as an officer grabbed her arm, violently twisting it behind her back. "I'm a luxury influencer! You can't put me in handcuffs! It was his money! It was Carter's inheritance!"

The cold steel cuffs clicked loudly around her wrists over the sleeves of her expensive white fur coat.

Carter didn't even fight. He dropped to his knees in the snow, sobbing uncontrollably as an officer cuffed him. "Mom, please! Don't let them take me! I have nowhere to go!"

"You can go to hell," Rosalind replied coldly, turning her back on him completely.

The officers dragged the thrashing, weeping couple down the snowy porch steps, throwing them roughly into the back of the freezing police cruisers. Their massive designer suitcases were left entirely abandoned on the porch, a pathetic monument to their destroyed greed.
