Chapter 10 - The New Owner

The chaotic, frantic energy completely evaporated from the diner.
Maya let out a long, shuddering breath of pure relief. The nightmare was over. But she was still standing in an empty diner, shivering, without a job.
Daniel walked over to the counter. He picked up the white envelope of stolen cash that the police had recovered and gently handed it back to Maya.
"Your mother is going to be transferred to the absolute best private medical facility in this city tonight," Daniel promised softly, his eyes shining with profound, unbreakable respect. "Every single medical bill is completely paid for. By me."
Maya burst into genuine tears of overwhelming joy, clutching the envelope to her chest. "Thank you. I don't know how I could ever repay you."
"You already did," Daniel smiled warmly. He pulled a heavy ring of keys from his pocket and placed them on the counter. "I just terminated Greg's corporate lease. But this neighborhood still needs a diner. And it needs a manager who actually understands what it means to care for people."
Maya gasped, staring at the keys in absolute, paralyzing wonder.
She wasn't just getting her job back. The billionaire had just handed her the keys to her very own restaurant.

A year later, the diner was completely renovated, glowing warmly in the city night. Maya stood proudly behind the counter in a sharp, elegant blouse, watching her healthy, recovering mother sip coffee in the corner booth. Maya smiled brightly, knowing that true power isn't found in a billionaire's bank account—it is found in having the courage to show kindness when the world tells you to be cruel.
Do you think getting arrested was enough justice for the cruel manager, or did the arrogant boss deserve a harsher punishment for stealing medical money?
