Chapter 8 - The Undercover Sting

Greg stopped breathing. He looked like he had just seen the grim reaper.

"I don't... I don't know what you're talking about," Greg whimpered pathetically, backing away until his spine hit the coffee machine. "Those are lies! My staff loves me!"

Daniel smiled—a cold, merciless, terrifying smile.

"They don't love you, Greg. They are terrified of you," Daniel corrected flawlessly. "Which is exactly why I spent the last forty-eight hours sitting on the pavement outside this building, disguised as a beggar, waiting to see exactly what kind of monster I was renting my property to."

Maya gasped, covering her mouth with her hands. The entire homeless routine wasn't an accident. It was a highly calculated, billionaire-funded undercover sting operation to catch a corporate abuser in the act.

"You failed the test, Greg," Daniel whispered lethally. "You physically assaulted an innocent man. You fired a woman for showing compassion. And you stole the medical money she desperately needed for her dying mother."

"Please!" Greg wailed pathetically, dropping to his knees behind the counter, completely humiliating himself in front of the waitress he had just fired. "I'll give the money back! I'll give her a raise! Just don't terminate my lease! I'll lose everything!"

"You already have," Daniel stated, completely devoid of human empathy.
