Chapter 8 - The Reclaimed Sanctuary

The bright daylight pouring through the massive floor-to-ceiling windows suddenly felt warm and inviting again.

The wife sat down in the comfortable white armchair, cradling her baby against her chest. The apartment was hers, her life savings were legally protected, and the toxic parasites who had tried to destroy her spirit were permanently locked out of her world.

An hour later, her phone buzzed continuously on the coffee table.

It was Ryan, flooding her screen with desperate, tear-filled text messages. Please, baby! Open the door! Mom has nowhere to go! I'm sorry! I'll never listen to her again! Please!

She didn't even open the messages. With a single, steady swipe, she blocked his number, his mother's number, and every single relative who had enabled their cruelty.

She opened her banking app, transferring Ryan's personal allowance to a zero-balance account and canceling his credit cards. Within twenty-four hours, Ryan and Linda found themselves sitting on the cold Manhattan sidewalk with their suitcases, completely broke, utterly disgraced, and entirely abandoned by the high-society friends they had lied to.
