Chapter 6 - The Hidden Camera

Jason sat alone in the quiet hospital cafeteria, gripping a cup of cold, untouched coffee.
His mind was racing at a million miles an hour. Natalie wasn't just a physically abusive monster; she was having a brazen affair inside his house while he was across the country breaking his back to pay her credit card bills.
But Jason knew the family court system. If he simply confronted Natalie with hospital records, she would hire an aggressive, sleazy defense attorney. She would claim Jason caused the injuries, or she would manipulate the system into giving her partial custody just to torture him. He couldn't leave a single loophole. He needed absolute, undeniable, high-definition proof.
And then, a memory violently clicked into place.
Seven months ago, right before his travel schedule became intensely demanding, Jason had purchased a high-end, discreet pet camera hidden inside a digital clock. He had placed it on the living room bookshelf specifically to check in on their golden retriever while he was at work. The dog had passed away shortly after, and Jason had completely forgotten to unplug the device.
Jason frantically pulled his smartphone from his pocket. His hands were shaking violently as he scrolled through his apps and tapped the forgotten blue camera icon.
The app demanded a password update, but within seconds, it synced to the secure cloud server. The camera had been silently, flawlessly recording motion-activated video to the cloud for the last six months.
Jason plugged his headphones in and selected a video from the previous afternoon, exactly twenty-four hours before he returned home.
