Chapter 8 - The Tactical Retreat

Jason didn't rush back to the suburban house to strangle his wife. He knew exactly how to dismantle a monster without getting blood on his hands.
He called his ruthless corporate attorney and then contacted a specialized detective at the local police precinct. He securely transferred the downloaded cloud footage directly to their servers. The evidence of conspiracy to commit murder, child abuse, and massive wire fraud was absolute, undeniable, and airtight.
But Jason needed Natalie to feel completely safe and victorious before he dropped the guillotine.
He left Sophie under heavy, armed security at the pediatric hospital ward and drove his rental car back to his dark suburban home entirely alone.
When Jason walked through the front door, Natalie was sitting at the kitchen island, drinking a cup of tea. She immediately put on a flawless, Oscar-worthy performance of a heartbroken, weeping mother.
"Jason! Thank God!" Natalie cried fake tears, rushing over to hug him. "I was so worried! Is she okay? What did the doctors say?"
Jason didn't flinch. He allowed her to hug him, masking his absolute disgust behind a mask of exhaustion.
"The doctors said she is deeply disturbed, Nat," Jason lied smoothly, his voice hollow and defeated. "They found the bruises. She told them she did it to herself. They are keeping her on a psychiatric hold for a full behavioral evaluation. They think she needs to be sent to a facility."
Natalie gasped, perfectly feigning maternal shock, but Jason saw the microscopic, terrifying gleam of absolute triumph flash in her eyes.

"Oh my god," Natalie whispered, rubbing his arm. "I told you she was sick, Jason. We will get through this. Together."
👉 Natalie went to sleep that night believing she had won everything, entirely oblivious to the raid approaching her front door.
