Chapter 9 - The Morning Ambush

The next morning, the bright California sun illuminated the pristine suburban neighborhood.

Natalie was standing in the kitchen, humming a cheerful tune as she poured herself a cup of expensive coffee. She was wearing a luxurious silk robe, already planning how she was going to spend the two-million-dollar life insurance payout once Mark rigged Jason's car brakes next week. She felt like an absolute, untouchable queen.

Suddenly, the heavy wooden front door didn't just knock; it was aggressively, violently pounded upon.

Natalie frowned, annoyed by the interruption. She tied her silk robe and confidently walked into the entryway, expecting a hospital social worker or a delivery driver.

She swung the door open and completely froze.

Standing on her front porch were four heavily armed, uniformed police officers, two federal investigators in dark suits, and Jason’s ruthless corporate attorney.

"Natalie Vance?" the lead federal investigator barked loudly, his hand resting firmly on his utility belt.

"Yes?" Natalie stammered, the color violently draining from her powdered face. "What is this about? My husband is upstairs!"

Jason slowly walked down the wooden staircase. He wasn't wearing a casual blue shirt anymore. He was wearing a sharp, tailored black suit, radiating a crushing, undeniable aura of absolute power.

He stopped at the bottom of the stairs, holding his smartphone in his hand.

"They aren't here for me, Natalie," Jason stated clinically, his deep voice carrying flawlessly across the dead-silent entryway. "They are here because I gave them the cloud footage from the hidden camera on the living room bookshelf."

Natalie’s jaw literally unhinged. She physically staggered backward, dropping her expensive coffee mug. It shattered loudly against the hardwood floor, spilling dark liquid everywhere.

👉 The police officers moved forward, completely stripping the cruel mother of her freedom and her pride.
