Chapter 10 - The Unbreakable Bond

The chaotic, frantic energy completely evaporated from the estate.
Daniel stood in the quiet dining room, letting out a long, shuddering breath. The heavy, agonizing weight of the betrayal was finally lifted. He had protected his daughter. He had completely destroyed the monster who tried to break her.
He turned around and walked slowly up the grand staircase.
He opened the door to the nursery. Little Lily was sitting on her bed in her pink dress, hugging her white stuffed rabbit, looking up at him with wide, uncertain eyes. She had heard the shouting downstairs.
Daniel ignored his expensive black shirt and dropped to both knees right beside her bed. The terrifying, ruthless businessman completely melted away, leaving only a profoundly loving, fiercely protective father.
"Is the mean lady gone?" Lily whispered softly.
"She is gone forever, baby girl," Daniel promised, his voice thick with genuine emotion. "She is never, ever coming back."
Daniel reached out and gently pulled his daughter into a warm, unbreakable embrace. He kissed the top of her head, tears of pure relief falling from his eyes.
"I love you, Lily," Daniel whispered, holding her tight. "You didn't take your mommy away. You are the best thing your mommy ever gave me. You are my entire world."
Lily hugged him back tightly, a bright, beautiful smile finally returning to her face.

In the months that followed, Meredith’s offshore accounts were completely seized by the government. Daniel took a long leave of absence from his company, focusing entirely on his daughter. He fired the corrupt investigators, secured his home, and proved that a father's love will always be the most terrifying, unstoppable force in the world when his child is threatened.
Do you think Daniel was right to involve the FBI, or should he have handled the cruel stepmother himself?
