Chapter 9 - The Federal Raid

"FBI! Nobody move!"
The deep, authoritative voices of federal agents echoed through the foyer. A dozen heavily armed agents in tactical gear swarmed into the luxurious dining room, their badges flashing in the bright sunlight.
Meredith let out a horrific, blood-curdling scream of pure despair as she realized Daniel hadn't just caught her—he had handed her over to the federal government.
"Meredith Vance," the lead detective announced, marching straight up to the weeping woman on the floor. "You are under arrest for felony wire fraud, grand larceny, and extortion across state lines. We found your other victims."
"No! Please!" Meredith shrieked like a banshee, kicking and thrashing wildly as two massive agents grabbed her by the arms, hauling her violently up from the floor.
The cold steel handcuffs clicked loudly around her wrists, snapping the arrogant con artist back into the horrific reality of her crimes. Her elegant white silk blouse was wrinkled and ruined as they dragged her toward the front doors.
"Daniel! Have mercy!" Meredith wailed pathetically, looking back at the husband she tried to destroy. "I have nothing!"
"You showed my daughter no mercy," Daniel replied coldly, turning his back on her completely. "Enjoy your new boarding school."
Her desperate, hysterical cries faded down the long driveway, ending her reign of psychological cruelty and greed forever. She would spend the next twenty years locked in a federal penitentiary.
