Chapter 3 - The Arrogant Surgeons

Dr. Aris, a tall man in his 50s wearing a pristine white coat, let out an irritated sigh. He hated being interrupted by the nursing staff, especially when he was discussing hospital finances.
"Not now, Nurse," Dr. Aris snapped, barely glancing over his shoulder. "We are reviewing the girl’s surgical prep. The procedure is scheduled for 8:00 AM tomorrow. Keep her vitals stable and stop playing with her toys."
Maya didn't back down. The terror in her chest was rapidly morphing into blinding, desperate panic. She took a step toward the senior doctors, holding the doll out so the hidden tag was fully visible.
"You don't understand," Maya said, her voice rising, drawing the attention of the other staff in the room. "She isn't an orphan. And she isn't here for a heart defect."
Dr. Vance frowned, stepping forward. "What are you talking about? Social services dropped her off last night. She has no identification. Her preliminary scans show severe cardiac arrhythmia. She needs the pacemaker."
