Chapter 7 - The Lockdown

Dr. Keller slowly closed the thick medical file. His warm, distinguished smile vanished, replaced by a cold, calculating glare. He looked at Maya, then down at the floor, noticing a small piece of yarn from the broken rag doll sticking out from under the bed.
"I see," Dr. Keller said softly. He reached into his white coat and pulled out a small, black radio. "Security, this is the Chief of Surgery. Initiate a Code Silver on the pediatric floor. Lockdown all elevators and exits immediately. We have a containment breach."
The loud, blaring alarm of a full hospital lockdown instantly echoed through the halls. The heavy magnetic doors at the end of the ward slammed shut and locked.
Maya gasped, backing away toward Lily's bed. "What are you doing?!"
"You should have just done your jobs and prepared the girl for surgery," Dr. Keller sighed, stepping fully into the room and locking the door behind him. "Her uncle paid me five million dollars to ensure her heart stopped on the operating table tomorrow. It was supposed to be clean and tragic. But now, it seems I have to handle this mess myself."
