Chapter 9 - The Broken Glass
Dr. Keller snarled, punching Dr. Aris hard in the jaw. The older surgeon was surprisingly strong, fueled by pure, desperate greed. He shoved Dr. Aris off him and scrambled across the floor, reaching frantically for the lethal syringe.
His fingers brushed the plastic. He grabbed it and scrambled to his feet, his white coat torn, his eyes completely wild.
He lunged toward the bed, aiming the needle directly at Maya’s neck to get her out of the way.
CRASH!
The reinforced glass of the hospital door finally shattered inward. Dr. Vance was thrown backward as four heavily armed SWAT officers burst through the broken frame. They didn't wait to ask questions. Seeing a man in a white coat lunging at a nurse with a syringe, the officers tackled Dr. Keller to the ground with brutal, overwhelming force.
"Drop it! Drop the needle!" an officer screamed, pinning the corrupt doctor’s arm behind his back until he cried out in pain and dropped the syringe.

Maya stayed wrapped around Lily, sobbing hysterically in pure relief as the officers handcuffed the Chief of Surgery and dragged him out of the room. The nightmare was finally over. The little girl was safe.
