Dr. Vance stared at the tag, his hands shaking just as violently as Maya’s.
Lily Sterling.
The name echoed in his mind like a gunshot. The Sterling family was one of the wealthiest billionaire dynasties in the country. A week ago, the news had reported a tragic car accident that killed the Sterling CEO and his wife. Their only daughter, the sole heir to a two-billion-dollar empire, was presumed missing in the wreckage.
"She’s the Sterling heir," Maya whispered, tears of absolute horror pooling in her eyes. She looked at Lily, who was sitting quietly in the bed, completely unaware of the massive fortune—and the massive target—on her head.
"The cardiac scans," Dr. Aris stammered, his face covered in a cold sweat. "The scans that were sent to us last night... they showed a fatal defect. They authorized a high-risk surgery for tomorrow morning."

"The scans were faked," Dr. Vance realized, his voice trembling with sheer panic. "Social services didn't drop her off. Whoever brought her in last night forged the intake papers. They scheduled a fatal 'complication' on our operating table so it would look like a natural medical tragedy."
