Chapter 6 - The Blue Passbook

Frank held his hand up in the warm light of the crystal chandelier. Pinched between his fingers was a small, incredibly old, battered object.

It was an old blue savings passbook. The edges were frayed, the gold foil lettering faded from decades of being locked away in a secure, hidden safe that Brenda had never known existed.

"Is this what you were really looking for?" Frank asked, his voice cold and sharp as broken glass.

Tight shot on Brenda's face. All color completely drained from her cheeks, leaving her looking sickly and pale. Her eyes locked instantly onto the blue passbook.

Brenda wasn't a fool when it came to wealth. She immediately recognized the vintage insignia stamped on the faded blue cover. It was the crest of a highly exclusive, legacy Swiss bearer-bond trust—a type of anonymous, generational wealth account that had been outlawed for new investors decades ago. Whoever held the physical passbook and the corresponding cipher controlled the funds. Completely untraceable. Completely untouchable.

"No..." Brenda whispered, her heart slamming violently against her ribs.

"You hacked our modern bank accounts," Frank said, his voice echoing with cinematic realism. "But the accounts you just stole with that piece of paper only hold the operating costs for this house. They hold the mortgages, the tax liabilities, and the maintenance debts."

Brenda began to physically shake. The elegant white dress suddenly felt like a straightjacket.

👉 Brenda realized she had just stolen nothing but debt, and her father was about to deliver the final, crushing blow.
