Chapter 1 - The Muddy Dress

The sprawling estate lawn was bathed in bright, beautiful sunlight. Massive arrangements of white flowers lined the aisle, and a hundred wealthy guests mingled in expensive formal wear. It was supposed to be a picture-perfect outdoor wedding.

But near the pristine white altar, a horrifying scene of absolute disrespect had just paralyzed the crowd.

Evelyn, a gentle woman in her sixties, sat crumpled on the wet, muddy grass. Her expensive lavender dress was completely ruined, stained dark brown from the damp earth. She was clutching her ankle in agonizing pain.

Just a few feet away stood her son, Adrian. He was the groom—a handsome, arrogant man in his thirties wearing a sharp dark suit. Standing right beside him was Celeste, his beautiful twenty-something bride in a flawless white wedding gown.

Celeste wasn't helping her new mother-in-law. She was actually laughing, hiding her cruel, mocking smile behind her manicured hand.

Thomas, Evelyn’s husband, rushed forward. The sixty-year-old man in a gray suit dropped to his knees right into the mud to help his weeping wife.

"Adrian," Thomas said sharply, looking up at his son for help.

But Adrian didn't move. He looked down at his parents, his facial micro-expressions shifting into pure, toxic annoyance.

"Dad, please don't make this a scene," Adrian sighed, adjusting his expensive tie, completely devoid of human empathy.

Thomas glared up angrily at his son, his protective instincts fully awakening. "Help me get her somewhere she can sit," Thomas demanded firmly.

Adrian dismissively looked down at his injured mother. "Mom, you lost your balance. Just stand up. You’re ruining Celeste's photos."
