Chapter 4 - The Alleyway

Ellie swallowed hard, rubbing her freezing, dirty hands together. "In the alleyway behind the big church on 5th Street," she explained, her voice trembling slightly. "I sleep behind the dumpsters there. I heard crying this morning. I looked inside a black trash bag, and he was in there. The picture was taped to his blanket."

Roman’s jaw clenched so hard it looked like the bone might snap. Someone had thrown his flesh and blood into a literal garbage bag to die in the freezing cold.

"Did you see who dropped the bag?" Roman demanded, his dark eyes entirely devoid of mercy.

Ellie nodded slowly. "It was a fancy car. A silver one. And a lady got out. She had really shiny blonde hair and a long white coat. She threw the bag in the dumpster and drove away really fast."

Roman stood up slowly, his towering frame casting a long shadow over the stone path. The description wasn't just random. It was incredibly specific.

A silver luxury car. Shiny blonde hair. A white coat.

Roman knew exactly who that was. It was Cassandra. The daughter of the rival syndicate boss, and the woman Roman was currently engaged to marry in a forced alliance to stop a mob war.
