Chapter 1 - The Balcony Humiliation

The bright afternoon sunlight illuminated the magnificent cream-colored limestone facade of the luxury residential building in Denver, Colorado. But the cinematic, breathtaking beauty of the multimillion-dollar estate was entirely overshadowed by a display of absolute, sickening cruelty.

A heavy black suitcase violently tumbled through the air, crashing onto the hard stone driveway.

Standing behind the ornate wrought-iron balcony railings high above was Vanessa. The thirty-two-year-old mistress looked undeniably glamorous in a strapless mint-green satin evening gown with a dramatic high slit, her platinum-blonde hair styled in a loose side braid. She was laughing cruelly, her smug, mocking voice echoing across the courtyard as she callously tossed Meredith’s brown winter coat, expensive high heels, and a precious, worn childhood teddy bear right over the edge.

Down on the stone driveway, Meredith stood perfectly still among her scattered belongings.

She was a stunning thirty-five-year-old woman wearing an exquisite strapless white fitted designer gown adorned with large sculptural white floral appliqués. A luxurious blue sapphire necklace rested against her collarbone. She looked up at the balcony, watching her life being thrown away.

For a fraction of a second, Meredith’s elegant facial features registered sheer, breathless disbelief. But she didn't collapse into a puddle of tears. She didn't scream.
