Chapter 5 - The CEO Replacement

Meredith's fingers delicately grasped the cracked black smartphone. She stood back up, completely ignoring the sharp shards of glass pressing against her palm.
She raised the damaged device toward her lips, her voluminous light-brown wavy hair blowing gently in the wind. She didn't look at Judith, and she didn't look at the mistress on the balcony. She locked her determined, fiercely intelligent eyes directly onto Ethan's face.
"We replace the CEO today, Graham," Meredith stated. Her voice was cold, authoritative, and utterly devoid of human mercy.
The camera immediately cut to Ethan.
The angry, controlling expression violently vanished from his handsome face. He completely froze on the marble steps, his lips parting in breathless, absolute disbelief.
"What the hell is this?" Ethan choked out, a nervous, arrogant scoff escaping his throat. He desperately tried to maintain his dominance. "Is this a joke? You can't replace me! I am the majority shareholder of Rowe Enterprises! My grandfather built that company! Graham, tell my psychotic wife to put the phone down!"
"It's not a joke, Ethan," Graham’s deep, composed voice echoed from the cracked speaker, cutting through the bright afternoon air like a federal guillotine. "The emergency board meeting concluded exactly three minutes ago. The vote was entirely unanimous."
