Chapter 7 - The Panic

"No! That's impossible!" Ethan shrieked wildly, completely abandoning his strong, masculine persona. He looked like a terrified, cornered animal.
A tight cinematic two-shot captured Ethan and Meredith. He took a desperate step closer to her on the limestone driveway, desperately trying to understand what he had just heard.
"You control the company?" Ethan whispered, his voice cracking with pure, unadulterated shock.
Meredith maintained steady, lethal eye contact. Her posture became effortlessly confident. The stunning white floral gown she wore wasn't just a dress anymore; it looked like the armor of a conquering queen.
"I bought your massive, pathetic debt, Ethan," Meredith replied coldly. "I own the board. I own your accounts. I own the chair you sit in."
"I'll sue you!" Judith wailed hysterically from the stairs, clutching her chest as her entire high-society identity completely collapsed into dust. "You manipulative witch! We will tie you up in federal litigation for decades! Ethan, call the lawyers right now!"
"Your corporate legal retainers were canceled this morning, Judith," Graham’s voice chimed in clinically from the cracked phone. "Your son currently has zero liquidity. His offshore accounts are frozen pending a full federal audit for embezzlement."
