"Mr. Hale," Garrett stammered, practically shrinking into his expensive three-piece suit. He tried to hide Kendra behind him, but it was far too late. "Sir, I... I can explain."

Richard didn't even look at Garrett. He walked past him as if he were a ghost. The billionaire patriarch walked directly to his daughter’s bedside. His stern, terrifying face melted into a look of profound, overwhelming love. He reached out and gently touched the sleeping newborn girl’s cheek.

"She is beautiful, Brooke," Richard whispered softly.

Then, Richard turned to the nurse in the blue scrubs. "Is the other one ready?"

The nurse nodded efficiently. "Yes, sir. Bringing him in now."

Garrett’s heart slammed violently against his ribs. The other one.

The nurse stepped out into the hallway for a brief second and returned pushing a clear, plastic hospital bassinet. Inside, swaddled tightly in a blue and white striped blanket, was a second newborn. A baby boy.

Garrett stared at the bassinet, completely paralyzed. He had twins. A boy and a girl. And Brooke had hidden it from him for months.

"I don't understand," Garrett whispered, his voice trembling. "Brooke, why didn't you tell me? Why did you hide my son from me?"
