Chapter 8 - The Hidden Clause

Garrett’s mind raced frantically. "I never signed adoption papers! I would remember that!"

"Do you remember the massive stack of corporate restructuring contracts you signed last month before you went to Aspen?" Richard asked, tapping the thick document in his hand. "The ones you were too busy to actually read? The ones you just blindly initialed so you could rush out the door to meet your mistress?"

The blood completely vanished from Garrett’s face. He felt like he was going to vomit.

"Tucked deep inside page forty-two of that corporate binder was a full surrender of parental rights for any male child born to Brooke Hale," Richard explained, entirely victorious. "You signed away your son for a ski trip, Garrett."

Kendra, realizing the massive wealth she thought she was marrying into was rapidly evaporating, grabbed Garrett’s arm. "Garrett, tell him it’s fraud! We can sue him!"

"Sue me?" Richard laughed a dark, chilling laugh. "With what money? You are fired, Garrett. Effective immediately. You are stripped of your VP title, your stock options are voided due to the morality clause you also signed in that binder, and your corporate bank accounts have already been frozen."
