Chapter 7 - The Master Plan
"I was going to file for divorce immediately," Brooke continued, her voice echoing perfectly in the quiet room. "But then I found out I was pregnant. With twins."
Garrett shook his head frantically. "But... but you just said..."
"I knew that if I divorced you while pregnant with a male heir, you would fight me for custody just to secure your position in my father’s company," Brooke explained smoothly. "You would use my children as a bargaining chip to extort millions from my family. I couldn't let you have any legal claim over my son."
Richard reached into the inner pocket of his charcoal suit and pulled out a thick, legal document bearing a golden state seal.
"So, Brooke and I made a legal arrangement," Richard stated coldly. "Three months ago, before the children were even born, Brooke officially surrendered her parental rights to the male twin. I legally adopted him. My wife and I are his official, legal parents."
Garrett stumbled backward, his knees actually giving out slightly. He bumped heavily against the wall.
"You... you adopted your own grandson?" Garrett gasped, hyperventilating. "That's insane! That's illegal! A judge would never allow that without my signature!"
