Chapter 3 - The Price of a Daughter

The heavy silence in the grand hall was sickening. The warm, romantic lighting suddenly felt like a harsh spotlight in an interrogation room. Chloe’s father, Arthur, slowly stood up from the front pew. He didn't rush forward to comfort his sobbing, heartbroken daughter. Instead, he took a step closer to the altar and aggressively hissed, trying to keep his voice down so the blurred guests in the background wouldn't hear.
"Keep your voice down, Chloe," her father snapped, his face flushed red with irritation. "You are making a scene. We can handle this quietly after the ceremony is over."
"Handle it quietly?!" Chloe gasped, stepping back as if her father were a total stranger. "He slept with Marin! She is carrying his child!"
Her mother quickly stood up, grabbing Chloe’s arm with a desperate, painful grip. "You need to listen to us," her mother whispered frantically, her eyes darting around the room in absolute panic. "Liam made a mistake. It was one stupid night. He came to us months ago and confessed everything. He took care of it financially. He bought Marin a beautiful condo in the city so she could raise the baby quietly. He did the right thing!"
Chloe stared at her mother's immaculate blonde bob and the expensive sapphire necklace resting on her chest, feeling like she was going to throw up.
"You knew for months? You sat with me while I picked out this white wedding dress, knowing my sister was pregnant with my fiancé's baby?"
