Chapter 4 - The Arrogant Groom
The ugly, putrid truth was finally spilling out onto the pristine white marble of the altar. Her father lowered his voice to a venomous, threatening whisper.
"My company is completely bankrupt, Chloe. We are drowning in bad loans. Liam’s wealthy family is the only thing keeping us out of federal prison right now. He paid off our most aggressive creditors. He funded this entire luxury wedding. If you don't say 'I do' today, we lose the house, the cars, the business—everything. You have to be sensible and do your duty for this family."
Chloe felt a cold sweat break out across her skin. Her parents hadn't just hidden a terrible betrayal. They had literally sold her to a monster to pay off their own debts and maintain their luxurious lifestyle.
Liam finally stepped forward, completely dropping the act of the embarrassed, caught groom. He buttoned his expensive tuxedo jacket with arrogant confidence, a sickening smirk playing on his handsome face.
"Your father is absolutely right, sweetheart," Liam said, his voice dripping with condescension and power. "I made a very generous, untraceable donation to your family’s estate. In exchange, they agreed to ensure this wedding went off without a hitch."

Liam looked over at Marin, who was still sobbing in her blush pink dress, and sneered in disgust. "Marin was a momentary distraction. You are the trophy I actually want on my arm. Now, wipe your tears, turn around, and let’s finish this ceremony before my billionaire parents get impatient. You belong to me now."
