Chapter 5 - The Shattered Sister
Hearing those vile, degrading words, Marin let out a sharp, agonizing gasp. She stumbled backward, clutching her pregnant belly protectively as if she had just been physically struck by Liam's cruelty.
"A... a distraction?" Marin stuttered, her face crumbling in absolute despair and heartbreak. "You told me you loved me, Liam! You told me you were only marrying Chloe because your father demanded a corporate alliance! You swore to me that we would be a real family once you took over the company!"
"Oh, grow up, Marin," Liam scoffed, rolling his dark eyes in sheer annoyance. "You really thought I was going to risk my billion-dollar inheritance to play house with you? I bought you a condo to keep your mouth shut. You were supposed to stay quietly in the back row today."
Marin collapsed heavily into the nearest wooden pew, sobbing violently into her hands. She had been completely played. Liam had manipulated her emotions, used her body, and then paid off her own greedy parents to silence her forever.
Chloe stood at the altar, surrounded by the beautiful white floral arrangements she had spent months picking out. She looked at her weeping, broken sister. She looked at her cowardly, greedy parents who had sold her soul. And she looked at the arrogant, untouchable monster she was supposed to marry.
For a fleeting second, Liam thought he had won. He reached out his hand, fully expecting Chloe to submissively take it and surrender.

But Chloe didn't take his hand. The tears on her cheeks rapidly dried. The trembling in her shoulders stopped entirely.
